The stock Jeep® CJ steering box mounts are stamped steel (1/8"), and not known for their strength. If you have tires larger then 33", and a front locker, the steering brace above is not enough to hold the box in place. This Heavy-Duty Steering Box Mount is made from 3/8" and 1/2" thick steel and will lock the box to the frame better than any other method. All mounting hardware included. Works with a Shackle Reversal System, or stock set-up.
Fits 1976-1986 Jeep® CJ-5, CJ-6, CJ-7, CJ-8

This one is left in stock location. The 7686-1 moves it forward one inch.

1) Does the leaf spring shackle mount go over or under the the brack mount to the frame? 2) On my '76 there are only 2 holes on the top, this has 3 - Am I required to use the 3rd mount for more strength/stability? Thanks in advance.
It sits on top of the bracket. The 3rd hole in the middle goes over the rivit.

Will this work on a stock 1979 cj7, to replace the stock 3 piece bracket set up.
Yes this replaces that bracket but with a much heavier duty bracket using 3/8" and 1/2" plate
