MegaPro Tow Hitch 5000kg - Tow Bar Mounted Recovery Hitch
Description
A premium, versatile recovery point designed to fit various 50 mm receiver hitches. Adjustable mounting options suit both shallow and deep-style hitches, so it works across a wide range of vehicles without awkward spacing or overhang.
Construction & Finish
CNC-machined from high-grade 6061-T6 aluminium for strength and weight savings, then Type III hard-anodized for outstanding corrosion resistance and a clean, durable surface. At just 1.2 kg, it’s markedly lighter than many comparable receiver recovery blocks while still feeling solid in the hand.
Shackle Interface
The smooth-edged shackle mount is built for safe use with synthetic rope soft shackles—no sharp transitions, no unnecessary abrasion. It also accepts a Carbon Offroad 4.25T Bow Shackle for those who prefer a traditional steel connection.
Fitment & Adjustability
The design supports horizontal and vertical shackle point orientations to suit real-world angles and vehicle positions. This flexibility is what makes it practical on mixed terrain and uneven approaches where a straight-line pull isn’t always possible.
Mounting Options & Versatility
- Upward-facing shackle point allows lateral movement when the recovering vehicle isn’t directly in front of the stuck rig, helping the line track cleanly during an offset pull.
- Side-facing shackle point allows vertical movement when you’re working on inclines or declines, letting the line articulate without side-loading the hardware.
Testing & Durability
NATA-accredited testing by Mechtest in Brisbane, Australia, pushed the assembly until the mounting pin failed at nearly 20 tonnes. The recovery point itself remained intact—only slight deformation to the hitch occurred due to the bent pin—demonstrating the block’s exceptional strength under severe load.
